The artwork: Seven Sisters
The Dreamtime story of the Seven Sisters tells of seven women who fled across the desert from a man named Jilbi and, with the help of spirits at Uluru, rose into the sky to become the cluster of stars known as the Pleiades.
About the artist: Khatija Possum
For Khatija Possum, painting is in her blood. A descendant of the famous Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, she was born in 1989 in Alice Springs and learnt to paint by observing and assisting her mother, Michelle Possum Nungurrayi – a process that keeps culture alive as stories and skills pass from one generation to the next.
